About this postcard
The entrance to the Main Administration Block at Napsbury Hospital, a large brick building with a central clock tower and arched doorway, stands behind mature trees and a lawn near St Albans, England. During the First World War the hospital served as Napsbury War Hospital, treating wounded soldiers. In October 1918, near the end of the war, this card was sent from the hospital to Master David Gibbs in Bedford City, Virginia. The brief message is signed Hedley. The use of "Master" before a boy's name was a conventional British courtesy of the period.
