About this postcard

The picture shows the entrance to the University of Pennsylvania dormitories, a red-brick and stone complex with a broad flight of steps, a central arched gateway, and a domed tower rising behind. The printed caption identifies it simply as 'Entrance to Dormitories.' The University of Pennsylvania relocated to West Philadelphia in the 1870s, and its Collegiate Gothic dormitory quadrangle was built around the turn of the twentieth century; this card presents that architecture as a monumental gateway to campus life.
