Uniformed soldiers and a sentry stand at the lamp-topped stone gateposts of Fort McPherson, with the post's tree-lined drive, red brick barracks and a flagpole with the American flag behind them. Fort McPherson was established south of Atlanta in 1885 and named for Union General James B. McPherson; during the First World War it served as a major Army induction and training post. The figures in khaki and dark dress uniforms, together with the small dog at the right gatepost, date the view to the 1910s.
