Entrance to Point Park, Lookout Mountain, TN, 1910

About this postcard

The stone entrance to Point Park stands on Lookout Mountain, with two crenellated towers, a central arch labeled POINT PARK, and American flags flying. Three women in long dresses and hats stand near the right tower, giving a sense of scale. Point Park occupies the summit of Lookout Mountain and commemorates the 1863 Battle of Lookout Mountain, part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. By the early 1900s the summit had become an established memorial ground, and the fortress-like gate gave its paths and overlooks a formal front.
