About this postcard

A tree-lined drive leads from a stone and iron gateway with ball-topped piers toward a large red-brick building of the Watervliet Arsenal, as the printed caption names it. Established in 1813 on the west bank of the Hudson River, the Watervliet Arsenal is the oldest continuously operating U.S. Army arsenal and long served as the nation's principal manufacturer of cannon and heavy ordnance. The brick structure seen at the end of the avenue is typical of the arsenal's early nineteenth-century shop and storehouse buildings.

Dear little Nina Guess you will think I am not a good one, but it seems so hard for one to sit down & write; I am so busy all the time. My Mother is in Schenectady this week with my brother. We are having nice weather here now. Love to all Uncle Phillips
