About this postcard

The view looks across the St. Lawrence River at sunset, with a pink and yellow sky reflected on the water. Trees and a rocky shoreline frame the right foreground, and a dark shoreline lies across the river. The sender's note describes a morning power-boat ride in and out among the Thousand Islands, past "Beautiful estates on all sides" and charming scenery. By the early 20th century the islands were a summer resort, with launches and steamboats carrying visitors among the channels and grand riverfront cottages.
