About this postcard

Still water in Roger Williams Park reflects a small stone-and-iron footbridge, a grassy bank, and a stand of tall evergreens and deciduous trees. A rustic shelter or pavilion sits partly hidden among the trees at right. The scene is titled "Evening Shadows," a mood suited to the shaded promenades and quiet ponds of a Victorian city park. Roger Williams Park was laid out in the 1870s on land donated by the family of Providence's founder and became one of the city's principal pleasure grounds, with lakes, bridges, and winding carriage drives.
