About this postcard

Four people sit on the covered porch of a two-story clapboard farmhouse, among them a woman in a white dress, a man in overalls, and a small child. A barn or outbuilding and a dirt path appear at the right. The sender writes that it is "a picture of our house" and asks Daisy Miller of Walton, New York, to confirm the likeness, so the group likely posed at home for an informal family photograph. Walton, a Delaware County village in the western Catskills, was farm country in the early 1900s, and a shaded porch with a bench was a natural gathering place for a rural household.
