Faneuil Hall and market square, Boston, Massachusetts, circa 1907

About this postcard

The picture shows Faneuil Hall in Boston, its brick and stone facade topped by the white cupola and weathervane, with a busy market scene of horse-drawn wagons, carts and produce stalls spread across the square in front of it. Faneuil Hall, built 1740-1742 and enlarged by Charles Bulfinch in 1806, served as both a market house and a public meeting hall and is often called the "Cradle of Liberty" for its role in the Revolutionary-era town meetings. The ground floor remained an active produce market into the early 20th century, which is the activity shown here.
