Federal Building, Spokane, Washington, 1909

About this postcard

The Federal Building in Spokane, Washington, fills the view as a large classical stone structure with arched ground-floor entrances, tall columns, and rows of windows. An American flag flies from a pole on the roof. Pedestrians walk along the sidewalk in front, with neighboring brick buildings at left and tree branches framing the right edge. Spokane was a railroad and commercial center of the Inland Northwest in the early 1900s, and a federal building of this scale signaled the city's growth.
