About this postcard
The interior of Alpine Tavern centers on a massive rough-stone fireplace, with a copper kettle hanging over a burning fire. Wooden rocking chairs are drawn up on either side, a straw hat rests on one chair, and a patterned rug covers the floor before the hearth. Alpine Tavern was a mountain resort stop on the Mount Lowe Division of the Pacific Electric Railway, a scenic line that carried visitors from Los Angeles into the San Gabriel Mountains. The sender's note about snow that winter and swings between cold and warm weather fits the resort's mountain setting.
