First Baptist Church and Parsonage, Akron, IA, circa 1907

About this postcard

A black-and-white view of the First Baptist Church of Akron, Iowa, a frame Gothic Revival building with a large arched central window, crenellated gable ends, and a corner tower topped by a slender spire; a flight of steps leads to the main entrance, and the church parsonage, a two-story frame house with a porch, stands at the left. Bare deciduous trees surround both buildings, suggesting a late-autumn or winter photograph. Akron is a small town in Plymouth County in northwestern Iowa, settled in the late 19th century; the card preserves the appearance of its Baptist congregation's frame church in the pre-World War I era.
