The First Baptist Church stands at a street corner in Lynchburg, Virginia, its red-brick Gothic Revival front dominated by a large rose window and a very tall dark spire. A smaller flèche rises behind the main roof, and houses and trees appear at the right. The sky is printed in a pale blue-to-pink gradient.
At the turn of the twentieth century, Lynchburg was a James River tobacco and railroad town, and its downtown churches stood as prominent landmarks. The tall spire and rose window give the building a strong presence in the street view.
