About this postcard

A street-level view of the First Church of Christ, Scientist on Central Park West at 96th Street in Manhattan, showing its rusticated base, tall arched windows, columned entrance front and soaring stone spire, with a horse-drawn carriage and a few pedestrians at the curb. The building was designed by the firm Carrère and Hastings and dedicated in 1904, one of the grandest Christian Science churches of the era. The bare trees and light dusting on the ground suggest a winter view taken shortly after construction.
