About this postcard

The photograph shows a single-story, flat-roofed brick branch bank with a deep overhanging fascia, a tall glass-block column at the entrance, and floor-to-ceiling plate-glass windows that reflect the parking lot. Lettering on the brick identifies the Plazavue Branch of First Federal Savings & Loan Association, and a matching sign marks the drive-up window on the right wing. The low, glassy design and drive-up service fit the postwar expansion of savings and loan associations into suburban branches built for car traffic. Such thrift offices often paired modern materials with convenient auto access to attract depositors in growing communities.
