About this postcard

A small hewn-log cabin with a shingled roof and multi-pane windows stands beneath a white columned pergola with a heavy cornice, enclosed by an iron fence on a paved terrace with flower beds and lawn. The cabin is identified as the first house built in Utah and is preserved under the pergola on Temple Block in Salt Lake City. Mormon pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley in July 1847 and quickly raised log dwellings like this one. The cabin was kept as a relic of the settlement's founding and displayed on Temple Block as a memorial.
