About this postcard
A small hewn-log cabin with a shingled roof and multi-pane windows stands beneath a white columned pergola with a heavy cornice, enclosed by an iron fence on a paved terrace with flower beds and lawn. The card identifies it as the first house built in Utah, preserved on Temple Block in Salt Lake City. Mormon pioneers who entered the Salt Lake Valley in July 1847 quickly raised such log dwellings, and this relic cabin was long displayed on Temple Square as a memorial of the settlement's founding.
