The First M.E. (Methodist Episcopal) Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa, is shown as a stone Romanesque Revival building with a tall corner tower and arched windows, set behind a lawn and street. Rock Rapids was the Lyon County seat in northwest Iowa, and like many Midwestern county-seat towns in the early 1900s, it supported substantial church buildings for established congregations. The rough-faced masonry and rounded openings give the church a solid, formal presence typical of the style.
