About this postcard

First Reformed Church stands at a street corner in Rock Rapids, Iowa, a brick building with a square tower, arched windows, and a small entry, seen from across the street past a tree lawn and a neighboring house. A street sign at the left reads 6 Ave S. Rock Rapids is the seat of Lyon County in the far northwest corner of Iowa, farm country settled heavily by Dutch and German immigrants, and the Reformed Church took root across that region in the late nineteenth century. The L. L. Cook Company of Milwaukee, which issued this view, was among the firms that supplied small-town photographers and jobbers with real-photo postcards in the mid-twentieth century.
