About this postcard

The First Universalist Church in Lynn, Massachusetts, stands behind a low wall and trees, its rough-stone Romanesque facade anchored by a tall square clock tower with a pyramidal roof. Lynn was a shoe-manufacturing city north of Boston, and the Universalist society's substantial stone church was one of the congregations serving its industrial population. A note from Aunt Mattie wishes the recipient could attend their fair and see the decorations and pretty dolls, a small glimpse of the fairs and social events common in New England towns in the early 1900s.
