About this postcard

The harbor at Teignmouth, a South Devon town at the mouth of the River Teign, with rowboats and a red-bottomed boat drawn up on a pebbly beach and figures working around them. A two-masted sailing vessel lies alongside the old stone quay, where barrels and crates are stacked, and tall stone-and-red-brick buildings with steep roofs line the waterfront. A long pier and a small sailboat close the middle distance, with pale hills rising behind the town. The old quay served local shipping and fishing, and the town was a seaside resort by the early 1900s. The caption calls Teignmouth one of the beautiful towns of South Devon and a favorite resort for those seeking a respite from "the madding crowd."
