About this postcard
A dense curtain of orange-scarlet flame vine covers a long hedge and climbs into a tall tree in a Florida garden, with lawn and low shrubs in the foreground. The caption keeps the older botanical name Bignonia venusta, now Pyrostegia venusta, a Brazilian climber widely planted in the state's frost-free districts, where it flowers in winter and early spring. By the 1920s such plantings were a familiar sight around Florida's resort towns and new subdivisions, and publishers sold views of them to winter visitors and the correspondents back home. This card went out from Dunedin, a small Gulf coast town north of St. Petersburg, at the season when the vine is in full bloom.
