About this postcard
Pink flamingos stand on and around their mounded mud nests on a small island in a pond, with white waterfowl swimming behind them and a white chick in the foreground; flowering shrubs frame the scene at left and right. The caption names Hialeah Park in Miami, the race track opened in 1925 by Joseph Widener, whose infield became famous for its flock of flamingos — a colony that made the track a tourist attraction as much as a sporting venue. The card's coloring and texture place it in the mid-twentieth-century linen era.
