About this postcard
A flock of pink flamingos, several standing over mounded nests on rocky islets, fills the foreground of a shallow blue lagoon; behind them rise the long grandstand and clubhouse of Hialeah Race Course, its roof lined with American flags and its tiers crowded with spectators. The printed caption names the scene as the flamingos and nests at Hialeah Race Course, Hialeah, Florida. Hialeah Park, opened in 1925 by Joseph Widener, was famed for the flock of flamingos he introduced to its infield lake, a colony that became the track's emblem and later a designated sanctuary.
