About this postcard

The picture shows an elaborate carpet-bedding flower display at Como Park: two yellow pillars topped with urns of foliage flank red panels worked with blue lyre motifs, and a broad staircase of red, yellow and pink bedding plants descends to a patterned floral scroll in the foreground. Such annual carpet-bedding schemes, planted in low masses of foliage and flowers, were a popular summer attraction in American municipal parks of the early 20th century, and Como Park in St. Paul was well known for its conservatory and seasonal displays.
