About this postcard
A view of the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee, a white neoclassical building with a columned portico, pediment and a domed cupola topped by a flagpole flying the American flag, with lawns, shrubs and beds of red flowers in the foreground. The present capitol was built in 1845, the year Florida became a state, and was enlarged in 1902 and again in the 1920s with wings and a taller dome; it served as the seat of Florida's government until the new capitol tower opened beside it in 1977, after which the old building was preserved as a museum. The linen-era coloring and the numbered caption suggest a mid-20th-century printing.
