About this postcard
A formal, fan-shaped flower bed of concentric plantings set in a lawn at the end of a curving drive, with two dark automobiles parked on the roadway behind and a wooded ridge beyond. The card's own caption names it as the entrance to the State Hospital at Massillon, Ohio. The Massillon State Hospital opened in 1898 as a state psychiatric institution serving northeastern Ohio and later became Heartland Behavioral Healthcare; such landscaped entrance grounds were typical of period asylum design.
