The view looks along a curving drive in The Front, now Front Park, with flower beds edging the road, mature trees, and several old cannons. A group sits on one cannon while a woman walks along the road. The Front was part of Buffalo's Olmsted-designed park system, set on high ground above the Niagara River near Lake Erie. In the early 20th century, parks like this served as promenades and gathering places for passive recreation, and the cannons were common memorial ornaments in city parks.
