A tall stone obelisk, the Floyd Monument, rises from a grassy bluff in Floyd Park above a broad river, with trees and a winding road in the foreground. The monument honors Sergeant Charles Floyd, the only member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition to die during the 1804–1806 journey; he died near this site in August 1804 and was buried on the bluff above the Missouri River. The 100-foot obelisk was completed and dedicated in 1901, and the site is now a National Historic Landmark.
