A long wooden footbridge on pilings crosses the still water of a sheltered cove, with a small white rowboat moored beneath it and a few skiffs and a sailboat anchored offshore. Wooden wharves and a cluster of shingled and clapboard summer cottages with red roofs sit among the pines along the far shore, beneath a pale green sky washed with pink at the horizon. Christmas Cove is a small harbor village on the Pemaquid peninsula in Bristol, Maine, long popular as a summer resort and yachting anchorage.
White margin at bottom carrying the printed caption "Christmass Cove, Me."; chromolithograph printed in Germany. Handwritten pencil message across the lower right of the picture area. Light edge and corner wear.
Postmark: CHRISTMAS AUG 24 11 AM 1906, with a second mark reading PORTLAND AUG 25 7-AM 1906. Undivided back with printed "This Side is for the Address"; German-printed litho card for G. W. Morris, Portland, Maine (series 84670); light soiling and a few foxing spots, small creases at corners.
