About this postcard

An aerial view of the Ford River Rouge complex in Dearborn, Michigan, shows long factory buildings, smokestacks trailing smoke, a waterway through the works, and green grounds at the edges. The printed caption identifies the site as the River Rouge Plant of the Ford Motor Company. By the late 1930s the Rouge was one of the largest integrated industrial works in the world, where ore, coal, and other raw materials arrived by ship and rail and moved through coke ovens, blast furnaces, and assembly lines to become finished automobiles. The scale of the plant dominates the surrounding grounds.
