A large inscribed boulder monument on a rough stone base stands in a grassy enclosure with low stone walls and a small shed-like building behind it. The inscription marks the landing place of the first Swedish colonists on March 29, 1638, the beginning of the New Sweden colony in the Delaware Valley. The Delaware Society of Colonial Dames of America erected the monument in 1903, and the printed caption identifies the scene as "Where the Swedes landed March 29th, 1638, Wilmington, Del."
