About this postcard

A large black cannon on a wooden carriage with spoked wheels stands on a stone rampart at Fort Mackinac, overlooking the town and harbor of Mackinac Island. White buildings, green lawns, and a breakwater are visible below. The British built the fort on the bluffs above the Straits of Mackinac in 1780, and its guns commanded the waterway. The site is now a museum interpreting the fort's military history.
