About this postcard
Bathers wade in the calm, rock-girt cove of Forty Step Bathing Beach at Nahant, Massachusetts. Low rocky ledges and a sandy shore fill the foreground, and a large shingled summer house stands on the wooded headland beyond. The house is identified as Senator Lodge's mansion, the summer place of Henry Cabot Lodge, the Massachusetts historian and U.S. senator. Nahant, a small rocky peninsula town northeast of Boston, was a fashionable summer resort known for its rocky coves and bathing beaches in the early twentieth century.
