About this postcard

A sculpted fountain plays in a landscaped garden on Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with the tower of City Hall rising at the end of the boulevard and a domed building, likely the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, at the left. Flower beds and clipped shrubs frame the foreground. The Parkway was laid out from 1917 onward as a grand diagonal boulevard linking City Hall with Fairmount Park, lined with cultural institutions and memorial fountains. By the early 1930s, the route had become one of the city's showpiece civic spaces, and this view captures its formal gardens and monumental architecture.
