About this postcard

The card shows a cluster of pansies in purple, yellow, and blue, tied with a lavender ribbon at the right and framed by gold scrollwork and a gold bow. A small gold plaque reads "From a Friend." The verse wishes the recipient good fortune and asks that the friendship prove true, like old friends. Pansies were a common motif on friendship cards, their name linked to the French pensée, or thought. A cousin's note on the back reports that he is gaining weight, now 8 to 9 pounds, and may come home on Saturday.
