About this postcard
A three-story red brick commercial block on Center Square carries a rooftop sign for G.W. Weaver & Son Dry Goods, with leafy street trees partly screening the facade. Horse-drawn wagons and buggies line the dirt street in front of the storefronts. The card advertises the business as "The Leaders, General Dry Goods Department Store," a claim aimed at the farm families and town customers who bought fabrics, clothing, and household goods there. Center Square was the commercial heart of Gettysburg, a market town that also drew visitors to its Civil War battlefield. The card was mailed to a Mrs. Jno. Miller in Seven Stars, showing how the store used postcards to advertise beyond town.
