The mural shows a nude youth riding a large eagle, pink drapery billowing around him against a blue ground. The figure is Ganymede, the Trojan shepherd carried off by Zeus in eagle form, and the arch above is labeled TENNYSON. The setting is the Library of Congress, whose Thomas Jefferson Building opened in 1897 and was decorated with classical and literary subjects. The Tennyson label identifies the literary source as Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
