About this postcard

An elevated view of the Garden City Hotel, a long red-brick building with white trim, steep white roofs and dormers, arranged in a broad arc around a central white cupola topped with a gold dome. Lawns, curving drives and mature trees with a touch of autumn color surround it. The hotel was the centerpiece of Garden City, the planned Long Island suburb laid out on the A. T. Stewart estate in the 1870s, and it drew fashionable New Yorkers out from the city for the season and for shorter stays.
