About this postcard
Red sandstone fins and spires rise above green scrub and a curving dirt road, with hazy blue mountains along the horizon. The view takes in the Gateway and Cathedral Spires in Garden of the Gods, the city park at Colorado Springs where tilted sandstone layers form narrow passages and high ridges in the Pikes Peak region. Charles Elliott Perkins's family gave the land to the city in 1909 on the condition that it remain free to the public. By the 1930s the park was a familiar stop for motorists touring the scenery west of Colorado Springs.
