About this postcard

A garden view across a lawn and clipped hedges toward the red-brick, two-story George Wythe House, with its tall chimneys, white outbuildings, and large shade trees. The house faces Palace Green in Williamsburg. It was built about 1754 for Richard Taliaferro and later became the home of his son-in-law George Wythe, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and Thomas Jefferson's law teacher. By the time this card was published, the house had been restored in the 1930s as part of Colonial Williamsburg's reconstruction of the eighteenth-century capital.
