The card pictures the Garfield Memorial, the sandstone and granite tower with conical roof, arched entrance and relief panels that stands on a hilltop in Cleveland's Lake View Cemetery. Built in 1890 to designs by George Keller, it holds the tomb of President James A. Garfield, who was assassinated in 1881, and is crowned by a terrace with views over the city and Lake Erie. The memorial's Romanesque exterior and its interior mosaics made it one of Cleveland's best-known landmarks of the era.
Black-and-white halftone print with a wide white border; heavy foxing and staining on the margins, image intact. Undivided-back era card.
No postmark, stamp, address, or message — back is entirely blank apart from the printed heading. Undivided back with "PLACE ONE-CENT STAMP HERE" box, typical of the undivided-back era (c. 1901–1907). Front shows a white border and a coarse halftone screen; card is toned and lightly soiled with a small stain near the upper center.
