About this postcard

The view shows the 'Gates Ajar' carpet-bedding display at Como Park in St. Paul: two yellow pillars topped with urns of foliage flank red panels worked with blue lyre motifs, and a broad staircase of red, yellow, and pink bedding plants descends to a patterned floral scroll in the foreground. Carpet bedding, planted in low masses of foliage and flowers, was a popular summer attraction in American municipal parks of the early 20th century. Como Park was known for its conservatory and seasonal displays.
