About this postcard
A gambrel-roofed clapboard house, its gable end painted with the lettering "THE HOME OF GENERAL JOHN WINSLOW AND JAMES WARREN PRESIDENT OF THE PROVINCIAL CONGRESS BUILT 1730," photographed in winter with snow on the ground. By the time of this card the ground floor had been converted to shops, with signs for "GROCERIES," "JAMES C. BOYES," "JOHN C. CAVE JOB PRINTER," a "BOSTON BRANCH MILLINERY PARLORS" and Red Star trading stamps. The house was long associated with General John Winslow (1703–1774), a great-grandson of Pilgrim Edward Winslow, and with James Warren, president of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress on the eve of the Revolution.
