About this postcard

The room is presented as General Washington's bedchamber at Mount Vernon, with a tall four-poster bed hung with a blue-and-white striped canopy and valance. A floral-upholstered wing chair sits at left, a bow-front chest with mirror at right, and patterned wallpaper and a multi-pane window complete the period interior. The caption identifies it as the room where Washington died and notes that original Mount Vernon furniture has been assembled there. Washington died at Mount Vernon in 1799, and the mansion became a historic site maintained by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association.
