About this postcard
The George Washington Masonic National Memorial rises on Shooter's Hill west of Alexandria as a white neoclassical temple with a stepped, colonnaded tower, terraced gardens, and a curving drive, shown against a sunset sky. The 250-foot memorial was modeled in part on the ancient lighthouse of Alexandria and dedicated in 1932 to honor Washington as a Freemason. Its grounds overlook Alexandria, the city Washington helped plan, with views north toward the capital and south toward Mount Vernon, his home. The memorial was built to hold a collection of Washington memorabilia and Masonic artifacts, and it serves as headquarters of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial Association.
