About this postcard
A night view of the small log building with a stone end wall known as George Washington's Headquarters in Winchester, Virginia, its windows glowing under a full moon, with a stone marker and cannon in the yard. Washington used this building as his office while supervising construction of Fort Loudoun during the French and Indian War, in 1755-1756, when he commanded the Virginia Regiment. The structure survives as a historic house museum. The card's moonlight scene is a colorized, linen-textured rendering rather than a photograph taken at night.
