About this postcard
A high, curving trestle carries the narrow-gauge track of the Colorado & Southern Railway around a horseshoe bend above a wooded mountain valley, with steep, sparsely timbered slopes rising on both sides. The Georgetown Loop, built in the 1880s between Georgetown and Silver Plume, climbed roughly 600 feet in about two miles by means of curves, switchbacks and high bridges, and its Devil's Gate high bridge became one of Colorado's best-known railroad sights. The line was abandoned in 1939 and later partially reconstructed as a heritage railroad.
