German Christmas card, chalet in snow, Heidelberg, 1963

About this postcard

A snow-covered road curves past a large chalet-style house with a heavy load of snow on its roof. Frosted trees frame the view in the foreground and background, and the sky is a clear blue. The printed greeting along the bottom reads "Frohe Weihnachten und ein gutes neues Jahr." The picture is a generic snowy Alpine scene rather than a Heidelberg view, the kind of winter imagery common on German holiday cards of the period. The card was posted in Heidelberg in December 1963 and sent across the Atlantic to a family in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. The sender thanked the recipients for their good wishes and passed on Christmas and New Year greetings.
