About this postcard
Glen Ellis Falls drops in a single white ribbon between dark rock walls, with evergreens and tumbled boulders crowding both banks and a small patch of sky at the upper left. The view looks up the gorge from the stream bed, a low, close vantage that makes the falls seem taller than their roughly sixty feet. The falls lie on the Ellis River in Pinkham Notch, near the site of the old Glen House hotel and below the road up Mount Washington. By the 1920s and 1930s the notch was a regular stop for motor tourists crossing the White Mountains, and the falls, a short walk from the road, drew summer crowds.
